UNFPA and PPAT Visit Mae Sot to Assess Reproductive Health and Crisis Violence Reduction Work

Between July 16th and 18th, 2025, Ms. Siriluck Chiengwong, Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thailand, traveled to Mae Sot District, Tak Province, along with the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) Tak Area Project Team. The purpose of the visit was to assess the needs regarding: reproductive Health services, work to reduce maternal and child mortality, work to reduce gender-based violence (GBV), youth empowerment activities.

This field visit occurred amid the significant situation of reduced funding support for temporary shelters, which directly impacts humanitarian operations and essential services for vulnerable groups in the border area. The team met and held discussions with key partner organizations in the area, including: Border Medical Learning Center (Border Med), Mae Sot Hospital, Suwannimit Foundation, Foundation for Aid Without Borders, Life Impact International. The aim was to collaboratively plan and thoroughly analyze the situation.

This joint visit by UNFPA and PPAT underscores their commitment to providing assistance and supporting access to essential services, especially during challenging circumstances, to ensure that vulnerable groups in the border area continue to receive appropriate protection and health services.
