On September 18, the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) participated in a workshop to develop the border health coordination network in Mae Hong Son Province, which was supported by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA). The meeting was organized to discuss and strengthen cooperation in managing health problems in the Thai-Myanmar border area. Dr. Thanawat Kongtham, Deputy Provincial Public Health Doctor of Mae Hong Son (Preventive Medicine), presided over the opening. The key issues discussed at this meeting included: Border Health Management and Security to ensure comprehensive access to essential services for people both inside and outside the country. Preparedness of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Border disease control, prevention, and surveillance. Provision of medical and public health services in temporary shelters. Healthcare for vulnerable groups in shelters. And creating collaborations with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to expand the scope of health work to be more comprehensive and effective.
Furthermore, PPAT in Mae Hong Son Province is supported by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) to implement the Project for Essential Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Response for Conflict-Affected Communities along the Thai-Myanmar Border. Participation in this meeting is a crucial opportunity to integrate work by collaborating with government agencies and civil society networks in the area, further strengthening the network for coordination and promoting health cooperation in the border region.
