On September 16, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT), and the Service Workers in Group (SWING) Foundation jointly organized the third forum titled “Building Understanding on the Repeal of the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, B.E. 2539 (1996).” Held in Phuket Province, the event was intended to open a space for exchanging views and driving solutions to issues affecting female service workers.

This event was a continuation of previous forums held in Udon Thani and Chiang Mai, ensuring coverage across all regions of Thailand. The main objectives were to update attendees on the latest situation regarding the proposed repeal of the Act and to allow participants to exchange opinions on the crucial issue of sex workers’ occupational rights.

The Phuket forum served not only as a stage for updating information and highlighting the problems faced by service workers but also as an opportunity for creative brainstorming and exchange of ideas. The goal was to collectively find solutions to push for new legislation that could truly protect the rights and profession of service workers.

The collaboration among these three organizations in hosting this event is a significant step toward policy change aimed at improving the quality of life, protecting the dignity, and providing equality and justice for all service workers in society.
