On August 3–4, Dr. Nanthakan Sungsuman Woodham, Director of the Association, led a working group to participate in a review meeting on the Telemedicine Services for Abortion Self-Care in Southern Thailand project. On August 4, Dr. Tanes Tanasomboon, Advisor to Panyapiwat Institute of Technology and Honorary Advisory Board Member of PPAT; Mr. Somchai Kamtong, Independent Journalist and Advisory Board Member for Network Development and Organizational Communication at PPAT; Ms. Ladda Jitwatanapataya, PPAT Project Manager; and Ms. Pathaithip Sakdawisarak, representative of the elderly group from Ratchaphiphat Hospital, participated in a brainstorming and discussion session on access to radio and television media for individuals with hearing and visual impairments. The session was part of a project studying the regulatory framework for television services that include sign language interpretation, closed captions, and audio descriptions. The event was honored by the presence of Asst. Prof. Dr. Sivanard Hongprayoon, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Arts at Dhurakij Pundit University, who presided over and observed the discussions. On July 21, PPAT organized a meeting to exchange experiences under the second phase of the HIV Prevention Project for Youth in Schools. The objective was to review the project’s implementation, share best practices tailored to each school’s context, and develop a plan for sustainable continuation. The meeting was held at Cinnamon Residence Hotel and via an online conferencing system. It was attended by representatives from the Bureau of AIDS, TB, and STI under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, as well as advisory teachers from network schools. On July 1-2, a team of instructors from PPAT organized a reproductive health education camp for visually impaired youth under a project to develop an inclusive sex education curriculum for youth with visual impairments. This initiative is carried out by the Rajsuda Institute, Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. The content focused on reproductive health, preventing unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as sexual rights and reproductive health rights. Participants engaged in interactive learning activities such as: The “Condom Saves Lives” activity, where participants learned the correct way to put on and remove condoms. The “Verbal Consent” activity, which focused on understanding sexual consent and skills for refusal and negotiation. This educational experience was engaging and provided the participants with valuable knowledge, empowering them to protect their health and well-being….
Between June 26-29, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Sripho, the registrar of the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT), along with Mrs. Duangkamol Ponchamni, project manager at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thailand, Ms. Naphaphat Panma, senior district officer of Mae Ai district, Chiang Mai, and network organizations, attended a meeting with the project working team, community leaders, educational institutions, teachers, volunteers from PPAT, and other stakeholders. The meeting focused on planning collaborative work for the project “Empowering Youth to Access Comprehensive and Equal Reproductive Health and Family Planning Services.” The team also visited the homes of young mothers in the Huai Ma Fueng village, Ban Luang Subdistrict, Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai, to assess their living conditions, which will inform future efforts to improve their quality of life. On June 24th, 2023, PPAT Khon Kaen Medical Clinic participated in the Isaan Pride 2023: Inclusiveness: Equality for All in Isaan. The event aimed to raise awareness about the diversity of people, identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations (LGBTQIA+). It also served as a social movement advocating for issues such as equal marriage rights, gender identity recognition, bodily autonomy, and reproductive health rights, including access to safe and legal abortion services. The parade, which took place in Khon Kaen’s municipal area, highlighted the voices of marginalized groups facing discrimination or inequality based on their gender and sexual identity….
On Friday, June 23, Dr. Nanthakan Sungsuman Woodham, Executive Director of PPAT, led a working group in discussions with Mr. Soramongkhon Mangalasiri, Director of the Foreign Affairs Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior. The meeting, held at the Ministry’s Foreign Affairs Division conference room, focused on collaboration in promoting sexual and reproductive health and family planning in temporary shelters for displaced persons from Myanmar, particularly at Ban Mae La, Tak Province. On June 22, 2023, Khun Worachote Lamudthong, Project Manager, represented the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) in receiving a scholarship donation of 104,370 THB from senior executives of the Grand Hyatt Hotel Group. The donation was presented by Edouard Demptos, General Manager, and Xuwat Wongchotewattana, Regional Director of Human Resources for Thailand, Cambodia, and the Maldives, at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. The Grand Hyatt Hotel Group initiated this pilot scholarship program for LGBTQIA+ youth 🏳️‍🌈 to promote equal opportunities and celebrate Pride Month. PPAT was the only civil society organization entrusted with managing this initiative, providing scholarships to high-achieving LGBTQIA+ students facing financial hardship. On June 19, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shayaniss Kono, Secretary General of the Association, accompanied by Ms. Penpan Chittasenee, the Association’s Treasurer, and Asst. On June 15, educators from PPAT delivered a lecture on preventing sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies, as well as provided risk screening training using the “Guanteen Program,” to students at Donmuangchaturachinda School in Bangkok. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Pansinee Mohdeewang, the school director, and was monitored and evaluated by representatives from the Planning and Information Systems Unit and the Behavioral Prevention Unit of the AIDS, TB, and STI Control Division.
