On the morning of August 16th, Dr. Nanthakan Sungsuman Woodham, Director of the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT), participated in a panel discussion titled “Because Our (Sexual) Health Matters Equally: Ending Violence for Everyone’s Rights and Choices” organized by UNFPA Thailand (United Nations Population Fund). Panelists included Ms. Pariyakorn Suwan, Secretary-General of the National Council for Children and Youth of Thailand; Ms. Nunnaree Luangmoi, Director of the Center for Girls Foundation; and Mr. Rungphet Muangmit, Senior Social Worker at Mae Sot Hospital. Bangkok, August 2, 2024 – The Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) Under the Patronage of H.R.H the Princess Mother, in collaboration with the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the Japan Trust Fund (JTF), co-organized the inception meeting for the project “Responding to the Sexual and Reproductive Health Needs of Displaced Persons from Myanmar.” This initiative will be implemented in Tak Province, covering three districts: Tha Song Yang, Mae Ramat, and Mae Sot, to promote knowledge and provide sexual and reproductive health services to people fleeing conflict in Myanmar. These displaced persons have settled along the Thai-Myanmar border and outside temporary shelters. Asst. Prof. Dr.Sukanya Sripho, Secretary-General of the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand, stated that due to the ongoing violent conflict in Myanmar since 2021, a significant number of displaced persons have fled to neighboring countries. On July 28th, a representative of the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, delivered essential household and food supplies to residents affected by flooding in areas where access and transportation were severely disrupted. On July 5th, the Khon Kaen PPAT Medical Clinic, in collaboration with the Thai Athorn Foundation, Khon Kaen, organized an activity under the project to promote health literacy and well-being at Ban Nong Yai Municipal School. The project was funded by the Khon Kaen Municipality. The activity was led by Ms. Warunee Tungsiri, Deputy Director of the PPAT Northeastern Regional Office and Manager of the Khon Kaen PPAT Medical Clinic, together with the project team. On July 5th, Ms. Warunee Tungsiri, Deputy Director of the PPAT Northeastern Regional Office and Manager of the PPAT Medical Clinic, Khon Kaen, represented the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) in signing an agreement to advance the promotion of gender equality and equity in Khon Kaen Province. The initiative aims to support Thailand’s bid to host the InterPride World Conference and World Pride. In the afternoon of 29 June, Dr. Nanthakan Sungsuman Woodham, Executive Director of PPAT, led the executive team and staff to join the Thailand Pride @Bangkapi parade to celebrate sexual diversity and advocate for progressive change on all levels. The aim was to build understanding and equality in Thai society—promoting human rights, raising awareness about gender, fostering self-pride, and creating safe and inclusive spaces for everyone. On the morning of 28 June, the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand, led by Khun Worachote Lamudthong, Project Manager, held a practical training session to empower girl youth leaders and teacher advisors with knowledge and understanding on preventing and referring services for young people in schools under the Girls Act project.
