From November 15–17, the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) organized its 2024 Annual Board Members and Staff Seminar. The primary objective of the seminar was to enhance the capacity of PPAT staff to work more effectively and solidarity. The event took place at Pailin A Conference Room, Felix River Kwai Resort, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province. The seminar was officially opened by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Sripho, Secretary-General of the Association, and was attended by members of the 17th PPAT Board, including Ms. Dadchaneeya Ruttanasiri, Registrar of the Association; Ms. Penpan Chittasenee, Treasurer; and Miss Sirichandra Balakanich. Executives and staff from all PPAT departments participated actively. The program included a full-day training session on positive communication techniques and team empowerment, delivered by speakers from the Association of Organizational Wellness Practitioners. On November 7th, the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (Chiang Rai PPAT Medical Clinic), together with the Mobile Medical Unit of the Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer Foundation Chiang Rai Province, provided education on sexual and reproductive health to families affected by flooding and landslides. The activity took place at Chao Pho Luang Uppatham Border Patrol Police School, Ban Hua Mae Kham, Mae Salong Nai Subdistrict, Mae Fa Luang District, Chiang Rai Province. Hygiene kits were also distributed to 30 families affected by landslides and to vulnerable groups. On November 6th, the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (Chiang Rai PPAT Medical Clinic), in collaboration with Mae Suai Hospital, Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province, organized an activity to provide education on sexual and reproductive health to women of reproductive age and their families. The activity also included the provision of contraceptive implant services to women of reproductive age who voluntarily participated in the program. The services were delivered at the contraceptive implant service point operated by the Primary and Holistic Care Division of Mae Suai Hospital. On October 30th, the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) (Chiang Rai PPAT Medical Clinic), in collaboration with the “Khon Khon for Change” Group, Raks Thai Foundation, Mae Fa Luang District Public Health Office, Phaya Phrai Health Promoting Hospital, the village head of Ban Mae Mor, and village health volunteers (VHVs) of Ban Mae Mor, conducted a mobile health outreach at Ban Mae Mor, Thoet Thai Subdistrict, Mae Fa Luang District, Chiang Rai Province. On October 25th, Ms. Serene Ramnee, Project Manager at the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT), represented the Association in a discussion forum titled “Developing Human Resources Across All Ages to Address an Ageing Society: From Policy to Practice”, held as part of the launch event for Thailand’s ICPD30 Report: 30 Years of Progress in Population and Sustainable Development. The event was organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thailand, in collaboration with the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and partner organizations. The forum aimed to launch and present Thailand’s ICPD30 Report and to share key findings with experts for discussion. It also served as a platform to promote the exchange of ideas among stakeholders, policymakers, and the general public, fostering a shared understanding of Thailand’s demographic transformation in the coming years. From October 22–25, Ms. Dadchaneeya Ruttanasiri, Registrar of the Association; Dr. Panpimol Wipulakorn, M.D., PPAT Board Member; and Dr. Nanthakan Sungsuman Woodham, Director of the Association, participated in the Solidarity for Change Regional Gathering & Youth Forum 2024, organized by the International Planned Parenthood Federation East and Southeast Asia and Oceania Region (IPPF ESEAOR) in Iloilo City, Philippines. The event brought together more than 100 participants from 21 member countries of IPPF ESEAOR, including executive board members, senior management, and youth representatives. The gathering served as a platform for discussing opportunities and challenges in shaping strategic collaboration in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice (SRHRJ) in the Asia-Oceania region. On October 23rd, the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother, in collaboration with the Bor Farang Rimnam Community and Public Health Service Center 17 Prachaniwet, organized the activity “In Remembrance of Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother’s Benevolence” on the occasion of her birthday anniversary. Her Royal Highness is the patron of the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand. The event took place at Bor Farang Rimnam Community, Chatuchak District, Bangkok. The activity was led by Ms. Nuttakan Yimrit, Deputy Director of PPAT, Mr. Worachote Lamudthong, Project Manager, Ms. Pattaya Buranaprapa, and the PPAT team. On October 15th, Mr. Pongsakorn Saokhiao, Project Officer, traveled to Saraphi District, Chiang Mai Province, to distribute hygiene kits to 35 households of young mothers under the age of 20 who had been affected by severe flooding. Access to the area was extremely difficult, with travel possible only by boat. The hygiene kits included sanitary pads, male and female underwear, towels, condoms, and essential daily necessities. On October 14th, the mobile health unit of the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) (Chiang Rai PPAT Medical Clinic) continued its field operation at Wat Tham Phachom, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, by distributing hygiene kits to support and encourage village health volunteers (VHV) who were also affected by the floods and landslides in Wiang Phang Kham Subdistrict, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province (assigned to the disaster relief unit at Wat Tham Phachom). The team also collaborated in planning further assistance for those affected by flooding and landslides, through the provision of mobile health services offering sexual and reproductive health care. On September 12th, the mobile health unit of the Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT) continued its field operation at Wat Tham Phachom, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, which was the first village to receive the surge of flash floods coming from the Myanmar side. The floodwaters brought mud that inundated houses and reached inside living areas. This operation provided health checkups and reproductive health education to people affected by flooding and landslides, including Thai citizens, migrant workers, and ethnic groups. Services were provided without discrimination based on race, religion, or ethnicity. The operation was led by Ms. Kornrawee Sanduang, Project Manager, along with the working team and the PPAT Mae Sot team from Tak Province. Services included the distribution of contraceptive supplies to prevent unplanned pregnancy, voluntary blood testing, distribution of basic medicines, wound care, screening for sexually transmitted infections, as well as education on reproductive health, prevention of sexually transmitted infections, and family planning.
